A very short notice to pass on the news that B. Ward Powers, my friend and former colleague at Tyndale College, passed into the presence of our Lord on 07 May 22.

Ward was personally known by several members of this forum who had studied under him in Greek, New Testament and/or ethics, and they will no doubt fondly recall his occasionally unique way of putting things!

It was Ward who invited me to join the faculty of Tyndale College in 2003, and it was he who proposed to the College Board that I succeed him as College Director in 2010. Of course, it was also Ward who I turned to first when I wanted a robust challenge to one or another of my exegeses (e.g. Ward was the first Greek scholar I asked to critique my 'long Acts' essay, which proved so devastating to the Revivalist misunderstanding of Acts, and which is available at this site).

An ordained Anglican priest and pastor-scholar, B. Ward Powers served several congregations in Sydney from the early 1960s onward; he authored or contributed to a score or more books, a large number of peer-reviewed journal articles, and a goodly number of blog posts over several decades. He earned two doctoral degrees in biblical studies - a PhD from London University, and a ThD from the South African Theological Seminary - in addition to undergraduate and graduate degrees in accounting, theology and linguistics. Finally, Ward held faculty appointments teaching (in succession) at Moore Theological College, Sydney Missionary and Bible College, and Tyndale College.

Vale, my friend.
