Q. Since leaving the RC's have you.....

A. Have not attended any Churches.

B. Have looked at a few.

C. Have Found a Church to attend.

D. None of the above / fill in your own answer.

Answer: A and B: I have not attended any other churches, but I have looked at quite a few through the internet. I am not ready yet to commit myself to another 'group' only to go through the same stuff. Don't get me wrong, I had many wonderful, spiritually enlightened years in the RC's and I wouldn't change a thing, but I still feel very indoctrinated and too judgemental to make any healthy choices right now....maybe one day....

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. Prior to my RC experience I.....

A. Had never attended Church

B. Usually went for Christmas/Easter/Wedding or Funeral.

C. Attended as a child.

D. Attended regularly.

E. None of the above / fill in your own answer.

Answer:  A and B: I had never attended church (only for wedding or funeral not xmas or easter). I avoided religion because I could see the hypocrisy, but I still believed in God. I know the Lord called me when I did get saved because of the many circumstances that happened at that time and the experiences I went through for many years after, but when I found myself living in the midst of that hypocrisy I had avoided before getting saved, that was enough for me. That hasn't changed my views on God, it's just verified my thoughts on man and religion....RC's are so much a part of religion that turn people off from God

Thanks for your reply, What you expressed above were the same feelings and thoughts that I have had. May I ask when you left your RC Group? I think my biggest fear is not that I dont trust God - I have lost faith in my own ability to be spiritually wise and not be mislead again.

Hi anon. I believe that you trust God to lead you and sometimes its a type of blind faith that leads you into situations. Perhaps to learn something God wants you to learn. You can not totally ever rely on your on feelings/interlect (as they get mixed up with emotions). Life is a journey that the Lord, if we are open to him, leads us through. He never promised us it was going to be all good and perfect. What about Paul who was ship wrecked, beaten, left in jail for two years. Can we avoid stuff by having better judgement ?- not always so I don't think. We just have to trust that God will help us along the way - whatever that may entail. Doors open and then they seem to close, we do not always understand why. We know in part but one day we shall know in full.

Physically, I left a year ago....spiritually I left about 2 years ago when I gave up on the ministry that I had placed my life and trust in for 18 years.

I know what you mean when you say you've lost faith in yourself, I've done the same. But, I don't think it's necessary to have faith in one's self, only God, therefore, I choose to do nothing at the moment except to try and rebuild my relationship with the Lord. I believe that it (my relationship) has been sabatoged by the ministry for the last 10 years or more. What I'm hanging on to now is what I've always hung on to for 18 years and that is what happened to me when I first got saved...that was real, powerful, life changing and faith instilling. I don't know what God requires from me at the moment, maybe nothing. Maybe nothing is what's required for me to heal.

I hope that makes sense.

Hi Cultevasion.....thanks for your words of encouragement - I guess right now my journey is at a stand still and I'm learning so much

All the best Anon, and God is always with you, even through times of healing. During my time of stand still I got closer to God (which is hardly standing still when you think about it). I only leaft recently (<1 yr ago) and after 16 yrs of fathful service to the RC doctrine God has still been with me (even though I left!) slowly leading and guiding me as things heal. They do heal...I am almost over it . Keep posting if it helps.

Q. Since leaving the RC's have you.....
A. Have not attended any Churches.
B. Have looked at a few.
C. Have Found a Church to attend.
D. None of the above / fill in your own answer.
Answer: A - the anonymous poster above summed it up perfectly: "I still feel very indoctrinated and too judgemental to make any healthy choices right now....maybe one day"

Q. Prior to my RC experience I.....
A. Had never attended Church
B. Usually went for Christmas/Easter/Wedding or Funeral.
C. Attended as a child.
D. Attended regularly.
E. None of the above / fill in your own answer.
Answer: C - used to go to Uniting sometimes with friends of the family, also went to AOG a few times with school friends, I enjoyed the music but the preacher reminded me of every dodgy evangelist I'd seen on midnight-dawn TV! needless to say it put me right off (but it gave me plenty of suppertime stories for when I joined the RCs and we got our kicks from sitting around piously tut-tutting about how ridiculous other churches were)

None of the above / fill in your own answer.Answer:-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Since leaving the RC's I have looked at a few churches and have very recently, after 10 years out of the RC's found a Church to attend, although I often find it difficult to get the motivation to go. I walked away from the RC's confused and unsure of where I stood with God, having grown up in the Church. I have always believed in God, and known that he loved me, but that was all I could trust or believe in. I am now - after a long journey of questioning, fear, discoragement, drugs etc. - reading my bible again (including all the scriptures left out from the RC's doctrine and finding my path to forgiveness and the love of God. It is hard and a daily struggle, but one I am only now beginning to see as worth it.

I grew up in the RC's so I didn't know of any other church experience, except at the weddings and funerals of my non RC family members. It is hard to judge what normal looks like when you never experienced it for yourself as a child.
For you were once darkness,
Now you are the light in the LORD

Before: Never attended anything.

After: Found Grace and Acceptance at All Saints Anglican Church in Greensborough.

After all the crap about the protestants being half catholic from LRL in the early nineties, he was wrong.  He does not even know what the word catholic means.  Anglicans are not half catholic, we are fully catholic.

Before: Was two when I was taken along but I remember attending Catholic Church before then. Was also Christened a Catholic.

After: Had a period of not going to Church, then tried one or two, then finally settled on a Church that I have been very happy at for the past 5 years.
ALTHOUGH I have also found it extreamly difficult to get back into Church and God fully emotionally and often take breaks from Church or refuse to go to all activities because I am scared senseless that I will become over reliant on it again (as RCI forced us to with them).  I envy all the people who can just enjoy it and get on with their lives without trying to analyse everything.
