If you cross the North Korean border illegally you get 12 years hard labor.

If you cross the Iranian border illegally you are detained indefinitely.

If you cross the Afghan border illegally, you get shot.

If you cross the Saudi Arabian border illegally you will be jailed.

If you cross the Chinese border illegally you may never be heard from again.

If you cross the Venezuelan border illegally you will be branded a spy and your fate will be sealed.

If you cross the Cuban border illegally you will be thrown into political prison to rot.

If you cross the Australian border illegally you get a job, a drivers license, , welfare, food stamps, credit cards, subsidized rent or a loan to buy a house, free education, free health care and in many instances you can vote.

Sorry, I don't understand. . .

Just one point if I may... would you really like to see Australia become a model of any of those countries you mentioned? Heck, you'd be thrown in jail just for having an opinion! They are all well known for lack of human rights and compassion.

Whilst I understand what you're saying, let's not forget that the majority of these people are fleeing from war torn nations, from poverty and from injustice. What do you feel we should we offer them? I would give my last couple dollars to see people freed from some of the circumstances that they are fleeing from.

Hi urch,

Just to mention I really don't have much of an opinion on these matters that's why I put in stuff and nonsense thread.

But what I will say is that I believe most of these people are not real refugees or the like. If they had the money to pay the smugglers then they couldn't have been too bad off in the first place. Go through the proper channels I would suggest. They are just looking for a free ride.
