I can't recommend this group/service because I know nothing about them, but thought I would post their info for those who might be interested:

For all those wanting to leave their sect, cult or religion.

We can help

If you have doubts, fears or concerns about your religious group or cult, you can ask us any question. We would like to help.

We do not belong to any religion. We are atheists. Other groups will advise you about a cult or sect, but they themselves may be religious. This means they will not always be able to help you as much as we can.

Our aim is to develop awareness, and give advice and support. You do not need God to be good. Your life is up to you. If you feel the pressure of unnecessary guilt and fear, drop us a line. If we can't help, we may be able to refer you to someone who can.

Warning: Check the About Us page. "We are not qualified psychologists" I'd suggest seeing a professional if one wants counselling, as they suggest.

Also from the About Us page: "Atheism is not a belief system. It is the acceptance that there is no evidence for the existence of any gods or supernatural beings." Not a belief system but based on a belief regarding evidence ... hmmm. Also neatly avoids the dictionary definition of atheism ... hmmm.

Also from the About Us page: one of the site's aims: "... to demonstrate how atheism and atheists can provide a positive contribution to the community." Kudos for being up front about it.

I'm not at all convinced that being non-religious means that they can or cannot help you more than someone who is religious.  There are too many factors at play in every individual case for that to be so. I am sure, for some people, non-religious support is indeed just what the doctor ordered, but for others this will simply not be the case.

I, for one, needed to be able to measure the claims of the RCI against the Bible and classical Pentecostalism and later orthodoxy. Only the religious, i.e. Christians, were able to assist me in doing that, and then only those well versed in RCI beliefs.  This is where people like Ian Thomason become such valuable assets to so many people.

But once past that, this kind of Atheist network would have been great. Once I needed help to measure the claims of Christianity against Science and broader Philosophy, etc, then they would have been a big help I'm sure.

I think that anyone who rejects God and Christianity would do well to see what these guys have to say and those who still believe should give them a big miss.
