Camps are some of my good memories. Remember when someone chucked a bucket of cold water over one of the shower cubicles and got Noel. Then there was the one where Les Shurmer split his pants on stage. Dave Fulford giving a testimony how his daughter was born with one short leg (and was healed) then Paul Heis got up and said at least she only had one short leg.Rob Mac being Pilate (pilot) and tripping over a bench and crashing. Brett actually still has a good memory of Mick Brydon from an early camp. Mick was nearly rolling on the floor laughing during a (serious) piano item.I remember Toni Wesley

I remember being so tired with my first baby, she was only 3 weeks old.  I was never allowed to miss a meeting or go home for a sleep.  It felt very legalistic once I had my kids.  It was fun when I was a teenager.  All that sneaking around at night, (after lights-out too!!!!!)  Got my first pash in Coolamon Dve.  Stayed with one person on my very first camp, large woman G...e W.....r.  She would give me a can opener and a cold tin of baked beans and say here's you dinner.   That was horrible.  She used to do my shirts up to my neck with safety pins as well.  What a freak.  I think they found her one camp rolling around on the stage, singing at about midnight, in her nightie too.

The experience taught me to run from overbearing legalists. yep, luke petrovickes, H.weggalar, and Andrew layton and I, where the ones who  did this crazy stunt. It was kinda cool climbing up on top of the marquee at 3am in the morning. On one pole we put a large sock,(which everyone thought was a pair of underwear, Gordon mac announced it from the platform to over a 1000 people  that some one put underwear on top on the marquee! countless people cracked up laughing) And on one of the other poles we put a little sign saying " I conqured Mount Marquee". But being young teens, we started to brag to our friends of our little night time missions, and it wasn't long before the lot of us where sitting in PastarH caravan. Boy did we Get it!! You could all most see the smoke coming from N.H ears. He walked to his draw and pulled out the sign that said "I CONQURED MOUNT MARQUEE" Then after a long silence N.H asked who wrote the sign?, then after what seemed like hours i put my hand up and said it was me. DOH!!  I was put out of followship for 4 weeks! can you beleive that? 4 bloody weeks!!!!!

Years latter i still had people caming up to me saying what  a laugh it was.

But over recent years camps have become very lifeless, 9 out of 10 people can not stand ocean grove camp and only go because of pressure. There is even a new Law that geelong folk have to obey where if they have not gone to ocean grove for 2-3 years, they must stay and go wheather they like it or not.

Which was the last camp you went to? I feel so liberated thatI can be free to choose whatI do, where I go and with whom over the summer holidays and not be treated like a child anymore.

The last camp i went to was in 2002, it was my worst ever! Give's me the creeps thinking about them camps, when people pretending when they got back it was all such a blessing, when most of them could'nt leave quick enough. How's those 3 min showers! like they havent got enough $$$ to cover the bills

  I to feel so liberated to choose what i do, and where i go over the summer holidays, it s wonderful!

Talk about control, 2-3-4 joyless no love meetings every week of the year, then to top it all off 3 full weeks of BootCamp! yuk! thank God i dont have to go to them stinken camps

That was my last camp too.  It was ridiculous that they had "commando's" at the gates playing try hard "security guards" with their precious walkie-talkies. All that was missing were machine guns!

I cant really remember my last ocean Grove camp , would have been late 80's.

we then headed North to Cowra for 2 or 3 years before we left the assembly.

first up I HATE CAMPING , so that got me off on the wrong foot from the start , I remember being flooded out several times at ocean Grove due to a rainstorm , I woke up in the middle of the night to find a river running through the middle of my tent , that was fun , all of my clothes were soaked.

But I generally had fun at camp , maybe because I was a teenager and just ran a muck (I was always getting a flogging for something or other lol)

I used to love going down to the beach for a swim and just fell in love with the town of ocean Grove in itself (went back a few years ago to have a look and its pretty much the same)

I seem to remember one year someone with a great sound system in their car driving up and down the dirt roads around the camp playing "Maniac" from the Flashdance soundtrack for hours on end , no idea what that was about but perhaps they were trying to tell us something ?
