What is so wrong in beliving in Christmas just because it does not state anywhere in the bible when Jesus was born does not mean we can't celebrate his birthday Christmas is the one day that the whole world turns to god it is a good thing and should be respected.

Christmas for what it is worth , is nothing more than a giant cash register.... I'm sure the incarnation was not purposed in order to build healthy retail industry giants with nice bottom lines ..

It is whatever you make it to be.

Anon,

True, but simply because it has become overly commercialised doesn't automatically make Christmas 'bad'. In reality, it's likely one of only two times during the year when our secular society stops to consider the 'Christ event'.

Blessings,

Ian

Ian,

I think it's the 'Santa event' is more to the point in society today. There was only one venue that I attended that Santa wasn't the star attraction, and that was by the RE class at the school, I work at. Acalades to the RI teacher and kids.
Santa seems to have become more important than the birth of Christ, almost everywhere.

Hi Brolgs,

Have to say that, in my experience, I've found the opposite to be true. Even some of my work collegues (who are definitely non-christians) agree that Christmas is the time for the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ - they just don't acknowledge Him as their Saviour and Lord. I've also talked to a lot of people e.g. in shops, restaurants etc over the last couple of weeks and have found that Christmas is a good time for people to open up a little - it's as though they're a little more free with sharing their feelings/emotions. It's a good way to open a conversation - wish them a merry christmas, ask them if they're looking forward to it and then ask them what it means to them. I was quite surprised to hear that many do actually think of the birth of Jesus as an important event!

Of course Santa got a big mention also!

I love the time spent with family and friends at Christmas time and always have. I LOVE giving presents to those I love - in honour of the one I truly love.

Oops, forgot to add - I absolutely LOVE Christmas trees too!!! Nothing more beautiful than a gorgeously decorated tree set up in a church for the whole community to gather around and sing carols. Christmas has a way of bringing people together as well as to church, and you just never know, sometimes the Christmas message may just get through to some of them.

And there's no need to go beserk with expense - to me it's all about giving not receiving. Make a large pot of mango & ginger chutney or some mulberry jam and label small jars with some scriptures on them. There's lots of things one can do that doesn't involve excessive dollars but shows the recipient that you care about them. After all, Jesus cared so much for us that He allowed himself to be born as a man - just that thought alone is amazing!
