Date Posted:15/07/2009 12:09 PMCopy HTML Just read a beautiful book called 'Women At The Cross' about the seven women who witnessed one of the most important moments in history - the crucifixion.
Linda Lesniewski examines a powerful and significant yet often overlooked dimension of Christ's ministry - the devotion and loyalty of the women who came, who stayed and who continue to come to the feet of Jesus even today. Christ had 12 disciples and only one of them showed up for the most important event in history. Yet seven women were there through every agonising moment. Linda is women's minister at Green Acres Bapatist Church in Texas where she leads a ministry that reaches over 3,000 women. An extract from her book... "Christ valued the unique qualities women brought to his ministry - devotion, loyalty and a servant's heart. He also ignored the Middle Eastern culture that prevented men from speaking to women in public. He not only spoke with them publicly but also incorporated them into his ministry - and still does! One of the great preachers of our day W A Criswell, noticed in his studies that "Jesus never used a woman as an illustration for evil, never asked a woman one incriminating question, and never caused a woman to experience shame". This observation prompts us to ask 'why?'. Christ spoke directly and sometimes sharply when talking to men so why did he use restraint when speaking to women? On occasions deserving of reprimand, Christ spoke to women directly - but without an attitude of condemnation. He treated women the way God designed them to be treated. Christ, who knows all things, knows women. The creator of women spoke to his creation in their heart language - in a way that gave them the freedom to respond from deep within. Instead of deriving your value from the world's view of women, from friends, from men, from magazines, from the mirror - look to Christ! Immerse yourself in his words. Ask his Spirit to transform your mind and heart into his very own. Live your life forgiven and whole, viewing his love from the foot of the cross" Just wanted to share this with the beautiful women here... Love, Urch Your unfailing love, O Lord, is as vast as the heavens; your faithfulness reaches beyond the clouds. Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, your justice like the ocean depths.

Re:Women At The Cross Date Posted:15/07/2009 11:32 PMCopy HTML Linda Lesniewski examines a powerful and significant yet often overlooked dimension of Christ's ministry - the devotion and loyalty of the women who came, who stayed and who continue to come to the feet of Jesus even today. Christ understood something about women that men don't. We are heart creatures, as god created us to be. One look into the eyes of jesus and our hearts know what most men never do. For them its all look what I know blah blah blah, when jesus was all about love the whole time. Christ had 12 disciples and only one of them showed up for the most important event in history. Yet seven women were there through every agonising moment. We are a lot tougher than men, but in a completely different way. "Jesus never used a woman as an illustration for evil, never asked a woman one incriminating question, and never caused a woman to experience shame". This observation prompts us to ask 'why?'. Christ spoke directly and sometimes sharply when talking to men so why did he use restraint when speaking to women? I think it is because women's hearts are more open to love. That is how god created us, that is how we function. I also believe that if a man has the revelation of the love of god, he will see women the way jesus did. The way christian men think about and treat women is a pretty clear indicator to me of how mature their faith is. Instead of deriving your value from the world's view of women, from friends, from men, from magazines, from the mirror - look to Christ! Immerse yourself in his words. Ask his Spirit to transform your mind and heart into his very own. Live your life forgiven and whole, viewing his love from the foot of the cross" This world's view of women sucks. We are meant to be thin decorations, and a lot of us suck it up like that is how it is meant to be. What rubbish. The other side of the coin is that women's liberation has in some way convinced some women the way forward is to become more like men. The result is that a lot of women, especially younger ones have hardened their hearts. I see the kind of behaviour, particularly sexual behaviour, among young women more characteristic of the way men usually behave. Society is getting harder and harder of heart with each new generation. Thank you for sharing this with us Urchin. It's a nice break from the usual. Tracey |

Re:Women At The Cross Date Posted:20/09/2009 8:33 AMCopy HTML Meta,
Galien you would do well at a local church ladies evening or get together !! Meta I don't tend to do well in group ANYTHING. People have conventional wisdom, and usually they are happy with that. I tend to go a bit deeper into things, and the average person doesn't seem to like it much, I am unsure why. That is one of the reasons I tend to stay away from groups, including church. I'm SO sick and tired of arguing about things I find unacceptable, but people seem happy with. Galien |
