Which one do you choose? For example...PR 14:8The wisdom of a prudent man is to discern his way.MT 6:25-34Take no thought for tomorrow. God will take care of you.MT 5:32Divorce, except on the grounds of unchastity, is wrong.MK 10:11-12Divorce on any grounds is wrong.MT 5:39,MT 5:44Do not resist evil. Love your enemies.2JN 1:9-11Shun anyone who does not hold the proper doctrine.MT 5:43-44,MT 22:39Love your enemies. Love your neighbor as yourself.MT 10:5Go nowhere among the Gentiles nor enter a Samaritan town.MT 6:25-34,LK 12:22-31Take no thought for tomorrow. God will take care of you.1TI 5:8A man who does not provide for his family is worse than an infidel. (Note: Providing for a family certainly involves taking "thought for tomorrow.")MT 7:1-2Do not judge.MT 7:15-20Instructions for judging a false prophet.MT 7:7-8,LK 11:9-10Ask and it will be given. Seek and you will find.LK 13:24Many will try to enter the Kingdom but will be unable.MT 7:21Not everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.AC 2:21,RO 10:13Whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.AC 2:39Those God calls to himself will be saved.MT 10:22,24:13,MK 13:13He that endures to the end will be saved.MK 16:16He that believes and is baptized will be saved.JN 3:5Only he that is born of water and Spirit will be saved.AC 16:31He that believes on the Lord Jesus will be saved.AC 2:21He that calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved.RO 10:9He who confesses with his mouth "Jesus is Lord" and believes in his heart that God raised him from the dead will be saved.1JN 4:7He who loves is born of God (and presumably will be saved.)MT 12:30Jesus says that those who are not with him are against him.MK 9:40Jesus says that those who are not against him are for him.
(Note: This puts those who are indifferent or undecided in the "for him" category in the first instance and in the "against him" category in the second instance.)MT 12:39,MK 8:12,LK 11:29Jesus says that he will give no "sign."JN 3:2,20:30,AC 2:22Jesus proceeds to give many such "signs."MT 5:37,15:19,MK 7:22,JN 8:14,44,14:6,18:37Jesus says that you should answer a plain "yes" or "no," that his purpose is to bear witness to the truth, and that his testimony is true. He equates lying with evil.JN 7:2-10Jesus tells his brothers that he is not going to Jerusalem for the Feast of the Tabernacles, then later goes secretly by himself. (Note: The words "not yet" were added to some versions atJN 7:8in order to alleviate this problem. The context atJN 7:10makes the deception clear, however.)LK 14:26No one can be a disciple of Jesus unless he hates his parents, wife, children, brothers and sisters.1JN 3:15Whoever hates his brother is a murderer.1JN 4:20If anyone claims to love God but hates his brother, he is a liar.LK 18:9-14Do not boast of your virtue.RO 11:20,1PE 5:5Do not be proud.RO 15:17,2CO 1:12,HE 3:6,2CO 2:14,5:12,11:17Paul boasts of his faith and says that one should be proud of it.JN 3:17,8:15,12:47Jesus does not judge.JN 5:22,5:27-30,9:39,AC 10:42,2CO 5:10Jesus does judge.JN 5:22God does not judge.RO 2:2-5,3:19,2TH 1:5,1PE 1:17God does judge.AC 5:29Obey God, not men.RO 13:1-4,1PE 2:13-15Obey the laws of men (i.e., government). The following verses make me really confused. I mean, who is responsible for my belief/unbelief at the end of the day? LK 8:12 The Devil causes unbelief. 1TI 2:3-4, 2PE 3:9 God wants all to be saved. MT 7:21 Not everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.

Re:The Bible Tells me How to live... Date Posted:01/12/2005 7:37 AMCopy HTML Is he? How do you know that? Did he tell you? Do you hear voices? It must be hard to hear anything with your head in the sand. You don't listen with your head, you listen with your heart.. All your scripture quotations explain why you need someone like Ian Thomason with good hermeneutical skills. Without Ian, the Pilinuts would have you roasted for dinner quite easily by now.. Gosh all the rules, prooftext, context, pretext and yes most importntly context completelely missing. Not bad for someone with a degree in journalism.. anon |

I use neither. I listen with my ears.
I see. Would you like to show us these mistakes. I am ready to stand corrected. But if there are any you cannot disprove, will you stand corrected?
Hmmm... I dunno about that, but you really should get your lips off his arse, he might need to sit down at some stage.
All? Really, well let's get into it. And what rules? Does the Bible come with an addendum? "How to read this book" by Jesus H Christ.
Thanks, but my Masters in Journalism is incomplete. I do however have a BA in Bbilical studies and a Grad Dip in Religion and Theology. And for future reference, if you want to insult me then you'll get more mileage by saying horrible things about my 8 month old son. |

Now you're adding stuff to the verse. The point is, his action causes their unbelief.
Um, ok. If you say so.
But it seems Jesus made it even harder for them. Why would he do that if God wants all people saved? Tricky Jeebers.
"And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:" So God sends a delusion? Wow. I thought that was Satan's job?
Someone said to me that the Bible is just a book and flawed at best.
So is God really God or what? Seems funny that God wants all people to be saved and the creates evil, sin, Satan, speaks in parables, sends along delusions... Come on God, what do you want? Make up your mind.
Nice 'explanation' and that may be what is meant. But it doesn'tt answer my point about the juxtaposition of that verse with AC 2:21, RO 10:13 and AC 2:39 .
See above. |
