Date Posted:24/07/2016 12:22 PMCopy HTML Hi everybody I'll make this one short: I just left a Revival group after having been involved for 15 years. The last two years I spent a lot of my time studying the scriptures and realised some things didn't match up with the salvation doctrine (one of them being 'tongues'). I want to follow the Lord but I'm finding myself to be a bit lost. Is there anyone I can contact? Blessings, mountainlander |

Re:Just left a Revival group. What now? Date Posted:24/07/2016 11:01 PMCopy HTML from what I read in the scriptures, everyone receives all gifts, including tongues, what am I misreading? If I had to choose only one blessing for life, it would be tongues. Why would god give me such a wonderful gift (and 10,000s of others in revival fellowship and other churches) and not give it to others?

Re:Just left a Revival group. What now? Date Posted:27/07/2016 5:45 AMCopy HTML Hi mountainlander, Hi
everybody I'll make this one short: I just left a Revival group
after having been involved for 15 years. Good for you. Escaping from 15 years of
spiritual abuse is no small achievement. The
last two years I spent a lot of my time studying the scriptures and realised
some things didn't match up with the salvation doctrine (one of them being
'tongues'). There are a lot of things that don’t
match up in Revival with the bible especially ‘tongues’. I
want to follow the Lord but I'm finding myself to be a bit lost. What are you asking, are you looking
for a Revival type fellowship again or want to come to know the Lord
personally? Is
there anyone I can contact? Contact a local minister of an
orthodox church, Presbyterian, Anglican, etc. Just remember, there is nothing we can
do of ourselves to earn our salvation, it is a free gift from God. Jesus died
on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins and is resurrected and speaks to
God on our behalf. “For it is by grace you have been
saved, through faith--and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—“ Ephesians 2:8. Ralph. I believe in Christianity as I believe the sun has risen; not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else. C.S.Lewis.

Re:Just left a Revival group. What now? Date Posted:28/07/2016 8:11 PMCopy HTML 1 cor 12.29-30 I would answer no, they don't. But then in the next chapter it says "i would that you all spoke in tongues". One verse on it's own rarely means much. He's talking about how meatings are conducted in these chapters, and not everyone will speak in tongues(or prophesies, or teaches...ect) in any given meeting. Some times you will be used a lot in a meeting, other times you won't do much. But I don't believe that there are only certain people in the church who can pray for healings, and only certain others who can pray for miracles any more than I believe only some speak in tongues ever. Earlier in the chapter it also says "...to another divers kinds of tongues..." but it also says one has the word of wisdom, another the word of knowledge, to another faith...". if these verses say only some christians speak in tongues then we also have to conclude that only some christians have faith. I would look to other verses such as acts 10 for information on what happens when a person receives the holy spirit.
Ralph, I've been in revival fellowship for over 10 years and am struggling to think of where spiritual abuse is apparent. My experience has been nothing but positive. I hope I'm not being intrusive, but can you explain what happened, thanks |

Re:Just left a Revival group. What now? Date Posted:29/07/2016 2:14 PMCopy HTML Paullondon Ralph, I've been in revival fellowship for over 10 years
and am struggling to think of where spiritual abuse is apparent. My experience
has been nothing but positive. I hope I'm not being intrusive, but can you
explain what happened, thanks Hi Paul, I’m not into writing long explanations but suffice to say
the Revival doctrine of ‘salvation by tongues’ is a good start of spiritual
abuse. Your view is tongues are the important thing to salvation.
It was Jesus who paid the price for our sins, it was finished at the cross.
Salvation came to man when he was born, a free gift from the Father. Tongues was always a stumbling block for me right from my
time associated with Revival, of thirty five odd years. False doctrine was my
main reason for walking away nearly ten years ago now. By reflecting on what has been posted, especially Catergory : Please
Consider- An examination of Revival teachings and ‘doctrines’ on this forum and through Didaktikon’s (Ian
Thomason) knowledge of scripture, showed me and set me on the right path we
need to follow to get to really know the truth of Jesus of the bible. It is Ian’s idea to have those that are interested in
seeking the truth to look into things for themselves and see what the bible
message truly is for us. A good book to start with, ‘How to Read the Bible for
All Its Worth, by Gordon D. Fee’ God be with you Ralph. I believe in Christianity as I believe the sun has risen; not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else. C.S.Lewis.

Re:Just left a Revival group. What now? Date Posted:10/08/2016 1:24 PMCopy HTML @Biblianut What are you asking, are you looking for a Revival type fellowship again or want to come to know the Lord personally? I
have come to know him personally when I realised what the good news
are. It was from that point that I felt a change of heart, something
completely different to what I experienced when I first spoke in
'tongues'. So, no I'm not looking for another tongue-based fellowship. Thank you for your suggestions. @paullondon 1 cor 12.29-30 I would answer no, they don't. But then in the next chapter it says "i would that you all spoke in tongues". I understand this as Paul saying he would like them to speak in different languages so they would be able to reach more people. It makes sense that Paul also states "I thank my God I speak in tongues more than ye all" (14:18) because this way he is able to share the gospel with more people. Yet in church he'd rather speak in a language the whole church understands. One
verse on it's own rarely means much. He's talking about how meatings
are conducted in these chapters, and not everyone will speak in
tongues(or prophesies, or teaches...ect) in any given meeting. Some times you will be used a lot in a meeting, other times you won't do much. Then why are some known for being teachers, yet others not known for being interpreters? Paul says someone speaking in an unknown language is to be silent if there is no interpreter (1 Cor 14:28). How do you know an interpreter is present or not if it could be anyone? But
I don't believe that there are only certain people in the church who
can pray for healings, and only certain others who can pray for miracles
any more than I believe only some speak in tongues ever. It looks like God had decided there are though... And
God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets,
thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps,
governments, diversities of tongues. (1 Cor 12:28) Earlier
in the chapter it also says "...to another divers kinds of tongues..."
but it also says one has the word of wisdom, another the word of
knowledge, to another faith...". if these verses say only some
christians speak in tongues then we also have to conclude that only some
christians have faith. Look at verse 7: But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. The gift of faith is given to a person for the edification of the church. It is not the faith that saves a believer. It is an extraordinary confidence in God's capabilities. Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for. By
faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so
that what is seen was not made out of what was visible. (Heb 11:1-3) Jesus answered and said
unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye
shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye
shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the
sea; it shall be done. (Matt 21:21) I
have tried to move a mountain and – believe it or not – it did not
move. Would you say I'm not saved because I did not have enough faith
for this mountain to be removed? I would look to other verses such as acts 10 for information on what happens when a person receives the holy spirit. I
have done so and came to the conclusion that people were accompanied by
various signs (e.g. Acts 2:1-4, 8; 4:31; 8:14-18; 9:17-19; 10:44-48;
19:1-7). Besides,
I can't see anyone seeking for a sign, let alone a specific one. So who
are we to tell God we need proof (which really is no proof at all since
anyone can make up 'tongues')? |
