Date Posted:30/12/2015 12:05 PMCopy HTML So Today i was visiting my dad at Kenilworth where the Revival Fellowship holds the Brisbane and greater surrounds annual Christmas camp.
While i was getting lunch in town i bumped into an old Rev friend who i hadn't spoken to in ages, i told him I'd meet him in camp for a catch up. not to my surprise, very few people whom i saw and recognized came and said hello as i made my way to meet up with said old acquaintance. As the conversation got past the basic hello and hows the weather , it went into the nitty and gritty. Basically my old friend Irish Pete said that Revival fellowship is in a 100m race with the other churches and that the first 25m have been run well (regarding tongues and salvation) and the other 75m is run bad (regarding how the other churches do well, most likely because they put the emphasis on Jesus). that everyone who leaves revival at some point meets with other ex revivalists to collude together to justify why they left and why revival is wrong I was using my emotions to make up my own truth. I explained that when i left Brad smith did 3 things 1. Told a close friend of mine that i was simple in mind and that's why i could not understand the "tongues salvation message" 2. told my own father that i abandoned everyone and that since i was a kid i struggled to grasp even the most simplest biblical concepts 3. Told me at one point after i challenged him on his authority regarding the scriptures and salvation message, he would go around and tell the young people that i was spreading rumors and lies if i tried to associate with them again. Irish peter agreed some of these behaviors were not acceptable but overall said that i had a bee in my bonnet with Brad smith and the oversight, and that brad was within rights to "protect his tribe" We had a separate discussion about how people who "give their hearts to jesus' are not saved but yet somehow they have a good understanding of the bible. I said " how is it possible they have such a good understanding and are not saved"? his reply was that "of course when you follow the teachings in the bible you get good understanding and results". in the end i told him i thought the church was nuts and crazy and that the salvation message is really Jesus Christ, that when salvation occurs you will see the fruits of the spirit working and changing their lives and impacting those around them. I made a strong emphasis that tongues is one of the many gifts. In the end we agreed to disagree and i left.....but wait there is more shit. As i was leaving, i bumped into someone who did recognized me yet again and we had a brief conversation. Brendan was very much closed hand and told me that you need to Repent , be baptized by full immersion and speak in tongues. He even had the nerve to ask if i spoke in tongues as he knew i didn't attend anymore and questioned my time in the church. It didnt take me long to attack him and to get him to throw up his wall of defense " im not going to argue with you, is between you and the lord now" Over all the RF is still a cult promoting their tongues based message, all though peter doesn't agree the way the church conveys the gospel message of tongues. he still abides by it. I myself stop believing altogether now and even in my moments of being an "unbeliever" i can still point out what the true gospel message of Jesus Christ is. I just wish i could have it. peace out people , no idea why i writ this but just to show anyone who is reading that this was my most recent experience . Hopeufully it will help someone out there. it will probably also be of good news to Ian that quite a few young people in the RF have left and broke the mold seeing the church for what it is, sadly like me they do not have a god anymore |

Re:Interesting Conversations Date Posted:30/12/2015 11:32 PMCopy HTML Hi, Reporter99.
It's disappointing, but unsurprising, to learn the Brisbane Revival Fellowship continues to promote intolerance and ignorance; "bad root, bad fruit" as I'm wont to say. Unfortunately, but again unsurprisingly, you've been on the receiving end of some very un-Christian behavior from your former "friends", and I know it hurts. Still, there are positives. First, you're clearly able to recognise and distinguish the difference in "fruit" between people you know in the RF from the people you know in Christian churches. This speaks to the poor character of the former, and the changed character of the latter (which is something worth thinking about). Second, you clearly understand the Gospel to be the "good news" about Jesus Christ. To my way of thinking, your spiritual perception has improved exponentially in just a very short time! I myself stop believing altogether now and even in my moments of being an "unbeliever" i can still point out what the true gospel message of Jesus Christ is. I just wish i could have it. I'd suggest what you've stopped believing in is the heretical nonsense spruiked by the RF. Given that such a large part of your life, your sense of reality, and your sense of identity was tied up with this rubbish, it's only natural that you're feeling some sort of "spiritual dislocation" now (it can sometimes take years to work through the junk). And speaking from a couple of decades of experience helping people in your situation, a little "spiritual dislocation" is a good thing! Consider: you said yourself, "I just wish I could have it." My response? Don't be surprised if God takes you at your word ;) ... it will probably also be of good news to Ian that quite a few young people in the RF have left and broke the mold seeing the church for what it is, sadly like me they do not have a god anymore. Well, the only "god" they had before was a delusion. Given the delusion has been shattered as a consequence of their leaving, there's opportunity for them to undertake some serious reflection on just what is true (something that wouldn't have happened had they stayed in the BRF). The Christian God is the god of truth, so I don't think he'd feel threatened by any of this. Remember: the focus of the RF is the mouth. The focus of God is the heart ;) Blessings, Ian email: didaktikon@gmail.com
