A healthy dose of biblical theology often remedies all manner of doctrinal ills. With respect to Revivalists and former Revivalists, studying a comprehensive and convincing work addressing the Bible's (and Church's) teaching on the Holy Spirit is foundational.

Anglican Churchman and scholar, Professor Anthony Thiselton, has published what I believe is likely to be 'the' definitive work on the subject: The Holy Spirit - In Biblical Teaching Through the Centuries and Today (Eerdmans, 2013). I've just now finished reading my copy, and I cannot recommend it highly enough!
