Have you noticed that the majority of kids who were brought up in the GRC are so screwed up, by this I mean emotionally, mentally and in some cases physically too. Obviously some bad stuff went down, but I bet each of us, besides ourselves of course, knows of at least one or more affected

The amount of people, who when they leave the GRC and are turning to drugs and alcohol in their quest to bring some normallcy to their lives is scary. I can't remember the amount of times now, but I have read of young adults abusing drugs and alcohol then turning to crime in an effort to somehow find who they are and where they belong. 

I personally knew of one young girl who on leaving GRC wound up pregnant not long after because she went looking for what she never had, and adding to her naiveity of life wound up a young mum. She did a fantastic job. However, since she was never properly educated about those life lessons she pretty much ended up in the deep end.

Few years ago it was a nice young guy who turned up in a bikie gang, another got involved in crime and cited his upbringing in the GRC as his defence. He tried to break out of what he knew but unfortunately went from one extreme to the other.  Don't know where he is today but I hope he is okay.

Obviously not all kids or adults for that matter make a dramatic entry into the 'world' from GRC, I know some who have made great leaps in their lives. Sure, they may have sampled the alcohol because when you are told for so long that everything outside GRC is evil, of course you are going to do the one thing that everyone told you to not do, but then thats life too.

What is it with the GRC and their 'policy' on sex ed? You are going to need or hear the info sooner or later, be it in the street, school yard, work, office, social gatherings. Yet the amount of young girls who used to leave high school in year 9, to learn about house work  or wait for a husband was scary, or to go into secretarial work used  to always make me wonder, but at the time you wern't allowed to ask questions or have answers to the myriad of questions that a teenager would naturally have at that time of life.

Try and ask an important question to the parent, sunday school teacher or elder, and you'd either get nothing or told thats not for you to know.

It is for me to know and I need help to find out!!!!

Every person who leaves the GRC Pty Ltd is permanently damaged to some degree.

The GRC Pty Ltd policy of "dumbing them down" has worked in the past, but the popularity of all the internet sites is making this more and more difficult. Thankfully kids have Godgiven enquiring minds, and it will only be the most controlled and downtrodden that continue in the GRC Pty Ltd mold. 

Unfortunately we only hear about the tragic cases where the young people do come to grief, but  as you have said, for every disaster story, there are many stories of triumph over the adversity of being raised in the GRC Cult. 

When parents are actively encouraged to give over the raising of their children to uneducated bullies and they comply, then the outcome is sometimes pretty tragic.

To be trapped in the Cult because of a parent's misguided choice must be horrific. The betrayal felt when the penny finally drops and the young person wants to exercise their "free will" and leave, only to be discarded by both "church" and family is criminal.

To the kids who succeed, often without parental assistance in any way, shape or form once they have been chucked out into a world that they have been continually told is evil, you have my utmost admiration.

You are more than survivors, you are true champions.

To succeed in life is the best way to "stick it" to all concerned with the GRC.

hey

I thought it was important to tell the world some of us Kids end up ok

I was in the cult until i was around 12, i am now 22 and the 10years in between have been very eventful.

I unfortunately had alot of problems to deal with that were worse than leaving the cult. But i managed to get through them ok with the love, peace and strength that only God can offer.

I am now studying a Diploma of Ministry.....I am actually encouraged to think for myself and ask questions, do my own research to form my own opinions. A young woman with her own opinions!!!

It has been hard though, and I think any child who has grown up in that environment should get support. It can be so traumatic and isolating, but you are not alone. It is possible for you to lead a stable and healthy life.

The most important things to remember are that God loves you, you are not a bad person, and that you are far better off being free.

God gave us all free will, He wants us to use it

My beautiful partner was in the Canberra one for 25 years.  I have been nothing but impressed with the way he has adapted and managed since he left.  He, of course, has had to battle the brainwashing / indoctrination when it crops up, and that will probably always crop up every now and then. But on the whole he has coped tremendously. :)  I'd say depression is probably a side effect of the cult for him, but it was a million times worse when he was on the inside!
