Biblical worship is the due response of rational creatures to the self-revelation of their Creator.

It honours and glorifies God by gratefully offering back to Him all the good gifts, and all the knowledge of his greatness and graciousness, that He has given. His servants praise Him for what He is, thank Him for what He has done, desire Him to increase in glory through acts of mercy, judgement, and power, and trust Him with their prayers for their own and others’ well being.

Learning from God is worship too: attention to His word of instruction honours Him, while inattention is an offence. Acceptable worship requires “clean hands and a pure heart” (Ps. 24:4), and a willingness to express devotion in works of service as well as words of adoration. (TRSB)

Hi Brolga,

Good description of worship especially the last paragraph.  Have recently purchased a Reformation Study Bible and appreciate the good solid study notes.

My very old bible dictionary uses the Hebrew "shahah"  to bow down, prostrate, the Greek "proskyneo" to prostrate, do homage to (God) honour, reverence, acknowledging God's devine perfection.   Worship may express itself in the form of direct address, as in adoration, thanksgiving and in service to God; it may be private, or may be public as in the Lord's supper, praying, singing etc.

All of Chapter 12 of Paul's epistle to the Romans gives a good description of worship.  The following are a few excerpts
from NLT :-

1.  And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you.  Let
them be a living and holy sacrifice - the kind he will find acceptable.  This is truly the way to WORSHIP him.
2.  Don't copy the behaviour and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way
you think.  Then you will learn to know God's will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. etc, etc, etc.

God Bless

Had many interruptions so will rewrite the two verses from Paul to Romans 12:1-2 from NLT.

And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you.  Let them be a living and holy sacrifice - the kind he will find acceptable.  This is truly the way to WORSHIP him.  Don't copy the behaviour and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.  Then you will learn to know God's will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

Worshipping God is more than just attending a church now and then, and bowing down, prostrating before God, taking the sacraments, talks, music, etc. He wants much more than sacrifice.
It is an on going out side of fellowship. We are told to pray without ceasing, reading and seeking sound knowledge from the Word, from the heart taking care of those in need, having a good attitude toward our fellow man, and walking in righteousness according to the will of God. We attend church because it is a product of what we are within, not just a short time of fellowship. Coming together is important but not as important as our worshipping 24/7.

Brolga, I would have thought your worship would have been a little more focused this time of year....

Hi Dis',

No, far from it. I'm a real heretic when it comes to worshipping sports as such. Too much a thin world view for my liking. But that's only me I guess.

brolga.
