Good morning, all.

Given that most of the people who visit here have been (or are) Revivalists of one sort or another, and consequently, place a significant premium on the Acts of the Apostles; I thought it prudent to introduce the following topic for general discussion. I'd like to propose that one of the features that's particularly significant in the writings of Luke, both with respect to his Gospel and to the Acts, is that he perceives "salvation" in two distinctive ways. First, that "salvation" is understood as a
physical reality, in the "saving" of the person from bodily harm. Second, and in light of recent conversations here perhaps more significantly, Luke understands "salvation" to involve the joining of people into the community of God: as a corporate reality.

In my opinion one of the basest of errors propagated by Revivalism is the mistaken view that "salvation" is a strictly "personal" matter. It's my position that such an erroneous perspective owes more to the Western penchant for "individualism" than it does to the biblical witness, and that as such it's a particularly dangerous and destructive approach, spiritually. And I offer here and now that Luke's writings provide a very good starting point for considering the matter in detail.

Blessings,

Ian

Good morning, Groagan.

Indeed I can, as I fear that all that you've encountered thus far is the Revivalist "tongues". As amusing as Lloyd's "spirit" is, I think it best that you to get to know God's Spirit instead

Blessings,

Ian

Hi Ian,

I got responses that I pretty much expected, but I had some time on my hands yesterday and maybe we both learned something. The next few days though ...

PS I gotta thank you for the expression "God's inscripturated Word" I learned from you a while back.

Ian

I'm hearin' ya!

Oh the old boy's club backslapping ego drivenness of it all. I can smell the testosterone, and the faint odour of a revival leader's meeting.........

The more things change, the more they stay the same. Hmmm.

Of course I knew you struggled with reality, but I didn't think you did so that much

Really? So, you know those nasty little leader's meeting they used to have in revival, where those with superior knowledge would sit around and sneer at the stupidity of the floor level assembly members, how the "penny hadn't dropped" etc? Laugh at the assembly members behind thier backs? How when anyone questioned them about the way they treated people they were of course wrong, didn't understand the "deep things of god", were having a problem with reality etc.

How is that any different from what you fellas do here? You know very well you treat anyone who disagrees with your view of christianity with sneering derision and the old written "look" between those of you who are in on the big secret.

And when anyone actually has the balls to point that out, they have trouble with reality. How stupid do you really think people are? smiley38

And as a matter of interest, it is the women on this forum, and shoes who have shown me the most kindness.

That figures, isn't it said "men are practical, women are emotional?"

Actually, 'no', I wouldn't know given that I was never invited to one. But your authoritative statements infer that you were a "regular" at such meetings? Next, I don't laugh behind peoples' backs. In case you hadn't noticed, when I respond to yours or others' nonsense, I chortle openly. And finally, I must say that I've met some pretty "thick" people over the years, but you really do take the cake when it comes to "defensive stupidity"

How is that any different from what you fellas do here? You know very well you treat anyone who disagrees with your view of christianity with sneering derision and the old written "look" between those of you who are in on the big secret.

Well there really isn't any sort of "big secret" given that the Book is available to all. It's simply that some of us choose to read it and apply it to our lives, whilst the likes of you don't, given that you clearly think that you know better. So I suppose if there is a "look" that passes between us when we discuss your willful ignorance and hubris, it is simply one of pity.

And when anyone actually has the balls to point that out, they have trouble with reality. How stupid do you really think people are?

I think you've confused "balls" with "brains" (or a distinct lack in applying the latter). Given that I don't particularly rate ignorance highly, your submissions invariably end up on the lower end of the bell-curve than do many others, and for a host of reasons. But to answer your direct question, "how stupid do (I) really think people are?" directly, that would altogether depend on just who are the "people" that are under discussion. Care to guess just how "stupid" I think you are?

I wonder how Shoes will take that? Ha, ha.

                                                             **************************

The scriptures are pretty clear on how god expects us to treat each other, regardless of our gender. Even outside that, it isnt rocket science. Being either gender is no excuse to be condescending ralph, we both know this.

The fruit of the spirit being love, joy, peace, goodness, kindness, gentleness, self control, faithfulness, meekness, are these not practicalities? Or are men exempt from them because they are too much like emotions?

Surely if one is motivated by the spirit of god then they come naturally?

Like the honest gentleman he is I would imagine. Two concepts that seem to elude you.

He doesn't seem like your average "bloke" who has to prove his blokiness to anyone. He just wants to please god.
