Morn' Ian.

Whoa - I amm impressed !!!smiley37 I presume you are referring to "Greek Grammar Beyond the Basics" ??..

Incidentally, you might be interested to discover that I contacted  Dr Dan Wallace in the USA several years ago regarding the broad contours of my exegetical study, and he confirmed my conclusions. Just so that you understand the significance of this, Dr Wallace is the author of what is without a doubt the most widely used koine Greek reference grammar in the world today.

I keep this much referred to volume within left hand arms reach. (In fact it is also closest volume in the closest corner to me.) Maybe one day when I climb your heights in Koine Greek, I may be able to contact such a notable Theologian.
Did you also make aquaintance with Bill Mounce as well ??

Blessings

Good morning, Eric.

'Yes' and 'yes'. I've had cause to correspond with both gentlemen in the past. A respected colleague of mine from Tyndale College (himself a world-renowned Greek grammarian) is good friends with Bill Mounce, and with many other noted members of the guild. I attempt to make in my habit to test my most pivotal grammatical conclusions with such men before publishing my results (Proverbs 24:6). In fact, the topic of my paper at the Tyndale Conference next June will be, "Pentecost and Pentecostals: an Exercise in Experiential Eisegesis".

Blessings,

Ian

Good morning, Ralph.

I've not listened to Mounce's offerings at the site you mentioned, so I can't comment on what he might ormight not have said. However, I would point out the following: Bill Mounce is a Baptist, and Baptists have long hinged part of their theology on this particular verse. Don Carson is also a Baptist, and like Mounce, he too is a renowned Greek grammarian and exegete. However, unlike Mounce, Carson has written one of the standard English commentaries on the Gospel According to John, and in doing so he reached the same conclusion as the one that I proffered. Ergo, the issue must be assessed grammatically before being assessed theologically.

Blessings,

Ian
