RE:Laurie Nankivell and the KJV

Good afternoon Ian,
The stance that KJV, or any version for that matter is best, in Revival and AOG and many other Pentecostal Nicotine Patch style groups, is just part of the bigger picture of doctrinal control, as your comment about the "tongues experience" accentuates.
I can remember back to the early 70s when my wife and I were newbies, I got talked into stumble-mumble earlier than her (more gullible I hear you say?) and as a result she was persona non grata till she was babbling with the best (and worst). Before that, every time she had anything to say, she would get the "but you're no spirit-filled" treatment. If only everything we did or said after we were coerced into babbling was pure and accurate life would have been a bowl of cherries as the old song goes.
The AOG/Revival/PRC/CAI doctrinal "proofs" of 3rd World War, Numerics, Pyramidology, British Israel, Y2K, Various "in the spirit" activities (laughing, singing, barking etc), re-baptisms, spiritual gifts (so called), forbidding of drinking alcoholic beverages etc etc are so filled with holes, lies and mistranslations coupled with dodgy proof-texting that the only way clear is Ctrl/Alt/Del then shut down and ask God for a reboot of heart and mind.
One of my favourite scriptures is: "For in him we live, and move, and have our being" Acts 17:28. If we think that anything we do or accomplish is because of us only, without God, then we don't really acknowledge Him as being omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent and in control.
Christianity is not magic, but it has many so-called adherents that behave like amateur conjurers who get disappointed when their tricks don't work and no audience outside their peers wants to see the show. Nevertheless, there is nothing like wanting to belong, wanting things to be right and peer pressure, to keep them going. Ultimately, unless we have the bravado and resources for kidnap and detox, we ought not cease to pray that God enlightens them.
John
