Ralph,
I know full-well from whence your comments sprang. The problem is that neither you nor Eric seems to understand either (a) the implications of the comments with respect to this topic, or (b) the complete context that underpins and informs them. To be honest, it appears that both of you are more focused towards the "parading of your 'learning'" here, than you are towards the actual issues that are at stake (which is a common enough fault among 'toddling' exegete-theologians; I've 'chipped' Eric about this several times now). And, of course, there is the fact that the two of you have hijacked a thread that was supposed to be about my recommendation for Wells' latest book.
Ian
P.S. WRT the NIGTC commentaries, you need to understand that with this series (as with the ICC, WBC, Hermeneia and AB series) the comment turns on the grammatical and syntactical discussions of the underpinning Greek text. It's been my experience that many whose Greek isn't up-to-par often misunderstand what is being construed when they browse the 'comment' section, for no other reason than an inability to follow the lexical discussion.
