Hi I am new to this sight and I was wondering if there were any ex-Perth RC / RF people out there. I grew up in the Perth centre and left just at the split. I am 28 so was a regular at Youngies etc...

I remember your family, mostly from the earlier days when you were kids. I'm about 17 years your senior, and wasn't into young girls back then, (sorry, really bad-taste joke) so didn't really know you personally.

I have noticed some new Perth folk looking in here just lately though! Similar age to you too.

Ah so the plot thickens!!! You know me, but I don't know you.

It is very, very weird when I bump into ex RC /RF's - my hubby is a teacher and he worked for a year with Ashlee Mouritz, which was VERY VERY interesting for a number of reasons. Anyway we grew up together and of all of those kids he seemed to have his head screwed on the most when I last saw him as a kid myself. He is now talking about starting up an RF and becoming a pastor in Mandurah. He seems to have grown up to be a nice man and my hubby and him taught together for a year before my man moved schools. They talked about God quite a lot and Ash never once told my man that he was not a christian (he asked as he does not have good things to say about the RC / RF). Anyway I find it interesting. I always cared a lot for those kids - I'm glad he's happy although I wish that he was out of the church.

I was there for awhile a couple of years back, but not when you were there.

My hubby's from perth, but he only started going to RF 10 years ago, and I think the split was 11-12 years ago??

I don't remember an Ashlee Mouritz???? Are you sure they still go there? I thought the eldest mouritz's still in the fellowship were Katherine and Dave?

I have a funny story relating to the mouritz crew. Back in 1980 I worked for 12 months in Kalbarri WA with Tony Mouritz, he used to own the boat hire on the river.

He was always telling me about his son and crazy daughter in law (who was a pastors daughter) anyway at my first Melb. Convention in June 82 I met some Perth people who filled me in when I said I had been in Kalbarri with Tony Mouritz and turns out his son is married to Alan Thomas's daughter. I've never met them them but he rang me up for about 10 years after he found out I was in the fellowship and had worked for his dad. Anyway I thought it was funny cause it was at the Kalbarri Tavern I got witnessed to.

Yeah Ash is definately still there, but at least he is not being really pushy - he lives in Mandurah and thus is looking at starting church down there - prob why he isn't seen much around the Yangebub / Morley sceen. I hear that Katherine and David are still going but living over east. I know for sure that Andrew no longer fellowships and is not in contact with the rest of his family. It is really quite sad. I grew up with them and they were some of my closest friends untill I left

Hello, i doubt Ashley would be looking to start a fellowship in Mandurah as there is already one there and its firmly established too.

Yes - E and C. C----d fellowshipped in Bunbury years ago and both no longer attend.  You may also remember Trevor R--d who also was in Bunbury - he is now the RCI Pastor in Perth.

Umm, i was only in perth for 5 months but have been in RF all my life. I wish it was more like 5 months. Nah, gotta be thankful for the lessons/trials i endured there, they've only helped me to be where i am now, so i've gotta be greatful for that. I know alot of you guys on this forum probably aren't at the stage of being greatful for your time there, but please don't think i'm belittling the hurt any of you suffered by saying this.

Hi Set free, like you i had been in the revers all my life (until i left) and am also greatful for life lessons learned both during and since. I have no hatred towards them, yes i get angry at the hurt they have/do cause, and there is still things we all deal with. However there are many fond memories of people, camps etc. I stay on this site to hopefully in some small way to help encourage those still in/left/ or on the way out as only and ex rever understands what you go through.

You sound like yuo are getting it together and more power to you, may God continue to lead and guide you in all that you do

God Bless

I'm not sure who "T & M P******** and their two daughters in Perth?" are, so i geuess that's a no!

Hey Earth, yeah I really have looked to the Lord to help me move on and not carry the hurt with me. I truly am SO much happier where I am now, whenever I feel down and I go to a worship session I feel the chains breaking loose every time I praise the Lord. One night in particular we were encouraged at a youth event to go to the alter (out the front) if we felt that anything was tying us down, i went out and i gave god all of my hurt, and asked him to take away the constant question of "why didn't the pastors in RF say things like this? I've been ripped off for so long!!". Anyway, that night the Lord took about 10,000kgs of my shoulders!!!! The hurt is definately fading as I turn to the Lord and proclaim that I will live wholly for him.

Something interesting actually, a sister who never went to RF was telling a few of us the other night, that other ex RF people that have moved on to their church in the past have usually taken a long time to come to revelations and let go of their bitterness - but she said that we've all "got the picture" already as far as "salvation message" and other such revelations SO quickly! I believe it's because it was the spirit leading. I was in no mood to leave the RF. Didn't plan it at all. I honetly believed i had to suffer through it. The only reason i left was because on New Years Eve (down at good ol' Carrickalinga) I vowed to the Lord that I wanted to live fully for him again, and not let other poeple dictate my enthusiasm and I also prayed to be spiritled. The next week i was out of the RF.

"Set Free" I can certainly beleive that, "out a week later" as for myself, John Kuhlmann gave a talk about 10 years ago, saying that if we (The Revival Fellowship) didnt do the right thing, then the Lord would, raise up another church, well I thought I didnt want to stick around if that happened, I would rather have a strong fellowship with God before anything else, well just over 2 years ago it all happened.  I was out. We dont have legalism where I am now.

How AWESOME is it to not have legalism!!!!!! Praise God.

i was just reading my notes this morning from talks I've heard over the last few weeks.

One part said "God destroyed Legalism when He offered His Son as a sacrifice. If we put ourselves under law we're saying to God that Christ's sacrifice isn't enough to save us, we're proclaiming that it's our goodness that saves us."

Does it usually take long to settle in to a new church? I went to a new church on sunday and have been twice in previous 3 weeks, i enjoy it and although i don't think i am bitter i feel like i am over the whole church thing, but I love God and do want to get closer to HIM. I guess in a way this is more a cry for help than a posting???

Anyway, who knows, who cares!

Hi we felt a little this way but I know believe it was a guilt thing from previous brainwashing at grc. Sort of felt a bit of a traitor, but this goes away when you realise why you feel this way. But saying this please pray about where you are going and watch for signs that it is a true place to worship God. I believe being a part of an organised church is better to keep you focused on the Lord as well as the social side and other benifets of being in a supportive group. But you need to be around honest and loving believers. Good luck!

Putting biblical references aside for a bit, why do 'Christians' feel compelled to be going to 'church' meetings? To me, it suggests a degree of insecurity that they must continually reinforce their beliefs with their peers. Why not determine from life's experiences, what you believe or don't believe or whatever and get on with life?

Do you see atheists gathering together each week in organised rallies to mull over their doctrines of atheism. Do they get up and testify to each other that last week an amazing fact proved to them that there is no God? Then sing a few 'there's no God' songs to drive the message home? Maybe have a talk on 'the joys of living without faith', followed by a nice cuppa together as they pat each other on the back for being good atheists.

OK I'm being a bit fecitious. But really..... if God is so real in the lives of so many people, why do they need to constantly prop up each other's faith to maintain their belief?

Personally, I do believe in a divine presence. But I don't need to gather together with a bunch of like-minds to feel at home with my beliefs. If God is the omnipresent spirit that he is attributed to be, then his presence can be appreciated anywhere and anytime. If we are created and instilled with a spirit of his making, then we need only to switch off the many man-made distractions, and tune in to the resonance of life that is there all along. If I may quote.... "Be still and know that I am God". To sit quietly and be at one with the present moment is getting closer to God than a hundred and one 'hallelujah meetings'. Getting to the centre of your being is where its at.

If going to fellowship meetings is your thing... great! But if you are not honestly, truly convinced of your professed beliefs, then going along to feel more 'spiritual' is a crock.

So 'Nahum 1v7' follow your own instincts as to what feels right for you, and chill!

Dog.

From what I've heard Jason left the RF a while back, and his mum Lou also left a couple of months ago, and goes to anther Pentecostal assembly (creating major waves with her RF loyal husband and ex pastor).

Hey Nahum,  you're asking, who knows who cares?  God knows and God cares! It is not easy stepping out of a cult, feelings that you didn't know that you even had can often begin to surface.  This is all normal and will become easier - just give it time.  If you can find a church that accepts people as they are  - which after all is what Jesus did, you will find support and love. Just have to be sure that you watch the goings on carefully - after all who wants to go through all that pain again.  I am thrilled with the church I am now attending, the praise and worship, the uplifting talks, the heartfelt prayer, the love and caring that the pastors show for the people - it just amazes me!  To think - all those years I believed the (RF) oversight when they said that we shouldn't go to pentecostal churches cos they compromise - I can see now just how much they (RF)compromised the word of God by their own narrow-mindedness.

Nahum - it's OK to cry for help, we all do at times and it's comforting to know that there are people who care.

Love, Urchin

Hi Nahum,

yes there are people who care, and as urchin said God cares.

I and my wife looked areound a bit b4 settleing into a church and even then we asked lots of questions and observed for a long time b4 we felt that we could call this place home. Yes it was a big pento church and it suited us. other ex rever friends didnt go down that track some are doing what is known as house churchs where small groups of people meet/fellowship in others homes on a regular basis, both are good. to me its really the body of christ in action as the ear dosnt do what the little finger does however both are part of the body and have a function and purpose. Others I know are still un churched in any form and are still (like all of us) working through things). one thing i will say is that the scripture does say not to forsake the assembling of ourselves together, iron sharpend iron etc.

Over all just take it easy keep looking to God,  dont be afraid to ask questions God is faithfull even if man is not

Hi Earth5,

Fair enough for you to do the Christian thing and provide the scriptural answer to the meeting thing. We have offered Nahum a couple of different perspectives, and Nahum can take or reject responses as he/she sees fit.

There are very many alternative ways to live out our lives. My questions were honest ones that I ask of myself. With folk questioning the legalism and everything of Revival Fellowships, I was extending the notion to question whether we must feel compelled to follow the bible at all. I feel that going to meetings can be a security blanket for some, and whether or not they maintain Christian faith, not going is an option.

Dog.

Ok. Thanks guys (girls)? I had a pastor from a different church tell me the other day he would challenge me on evrythind I ever beleived, well I guess what I have beleived over the years is not necessarily what I have beleived. We go to church, whichever church, in my case it was rci/rf and we are told what to beleive rather than seek for truth. Now every time I look for truth and answers there are barriers and judgements about everything. Not sure what I beleive. I beleive in God and Jesus, I don't beleive too many people.

I think it is healthy to be challenged - a bit like the all bran ad.

So, how about others, do you really beleive what you say you beleive??? There is a difference between beleiving and just doing.

Apologies for getting a bit deep/depressive before

Does it usually take long to settle in to a new church? I went to a new church on sunday and have been twice in previous 3 weeks, i enjoy it and although i don't think i am bitter i feel like i am over the whole church thing, but I love God and do want to get closer to HIM. I guess in a way this is more a cry for help than a posting???Anyway, who knows, who cares!

Hi Nahum

Its been a number of years since i left the RCI then  RF     I had been there for around twenty years

Dont be afraid to ask for help

Even though i dont know you          I LOVE YOU    AND I CARE!!!!!!!       your post hit my heart

Friends are important they can give you support and love       whether or not you attend another church regularly is a choice only you can make   I would suggest you do but you might be thinking which one

Woodcroft people who have recently are going through the same as you       you may even be one of those.

love chris

Thanks Chris,

I must be a bit negative here and say that you tell me that you love and care yet you remain anonymous. I am finding more and more that there are people who do love and care but they are like ghosts. All I am saying is contact me if you care, I am open for help but I don't know for how long??? I don't doubt your sincerity though

Putting biblical references aside for a bit, why do 'Christians' feel compelled to be going to 'church' meetings? To me, it suggests a degree of insecurity that they must continually reinforce their beliefs with their peers. Why not determine from life's experiences, what you believe or don't believe or whatever and get on with life?Do you see atheists gathering together each week in organised rallies to mull over their doctrines of atheism. Do they get up and testify to each other that last week an amazing fact proved to them that there is no God? Then sing a few 'there's no God' songs to drive the message home? Maybe have a talk on 'the joys of living without faith', followed by a nice cuppa together as they pat each other on the back for being good atheists.OK I'm being a bit fecitious. But really..... if God is so real in the lives of so many people, why do they n
Just thought I may not have been too good at explaining why I attend church. My belief in God is 100% and I dont go to church to strengthen my belief. I have had real experience with the Lord and have seen a healing of my son that was a miracle. So I dont need to strengthen my belief or try to convince myself of Gods existence. However I come from a family that all have met violent deaths and when I reflect on why they arrived at a point in life where for example many would like them to be dead or they themselves would want to die it all came down to very evil sins that they commited.  I am lucky to have the Lord to guide me through the Holy Spirit and have kept out of trouble mostly. But for me I think of children. They of coarse believe in the existence of their parents but their behaviour can be not too good if they forget their parents can see them. I am a little like this. My morals and general behaviour is better when I attend church as it reminds me of what Christ done for me and why I should behave as best I can in thankfulness. When I am living this way I feel happiest and all aspects of my life work out better.

I'm from Perth too...(Yangebup)... I just wanted to comment on this thread incase some current Revivalite's jump on here- I noticed that when you type in 'Revival fellowship Perth' this thread comes up.... so in case you accidently got here- I wanted to encourage all the people reading this thread- to look around this site...

....   especially at the information that will hopefully challenge your beliefs in some of the doctrines that Revival teaches...

You can read my testimony in the stories section...   and check my thread on "Is tongues for Salvation..." (it's in the Bible and beliefs section.)  Or you could just use the search engine on this site to look up key topics like "tongues"........

...or u can look up all my writing- (I'm Shining for Jesus ) -warning#  you may fall asleep...

Hi! I know this topic is rather old now, but I don't know where else to begin. It is so funny to read about all the people I've grown up with in Revival Fellowship!!! I am still attending Yangebup but am wanting to leave. Really wanting to! I've left twice before and have come back and I just want to leave FOREVER! I don't know why I'm "drawn" back there all the time!

Welcome to the forum H_W... Yeah... sometimes it can take a bit of 'too-ing and fro-ing' before you finally leave I guess. So many reasons can be behind that. Family still attending, the fear of losing all of the friends you have grown up with. If you don't really know any other way to live, it becomes a 'comfort zone'.  Take the big step! There's a whole new wonderful world awaiting! Good luck on your journey.

Regards.. Bindi

Well its good to hear of another local RFer that is being liberated from the assembly! Welcome aboard here. Look around, read of others experiences and stories. You'll find that there CERTAINLY IS life after the RF. There are plenty of resources and support here to help encourage you.

I'm not pretending its easy. It would have been about the hardest decision I ever made in my life, but one of the most liberating and a wonderful turning points of my life. Totally different to the suggestions they make that when folk leave they are 'throwing in the towel' 'back-sliding' and 'falling-away'. All those terms have the connotation of weakness and failure. This is nothing more than fear-mongering and ploy to keep folk in subjection to their influence. The truth is the opposite of what they say. It is the empowering action of a strong individual with the courage to go forward and take back what is theirs, their very own life. NOBODY has the right to treat us the way the RF has and control our life that way.

How to leave?..... You have to decide that for yourself, the timing, what you do & say, the people you speak to etc, is all up to you. You'll need a big umbrella to shelter you from all the BULLSHIT they try to throw at you, but you can see through all that, I know you can!

Keep in mind that it SUITS THEM for you to slink away quietly so that they can just carry on without too much interuption to their program. Then they can cross you off their lists and forget about you, and continue in their delusional elitist ways. It's easy for me to say maybe, but I'd love it if folk stood up tall and went around saying goodbye to folk they know and love, explaining that they are not coming back because............ and deflecting any attempts to stop you. Or getting up to give a testimony, and making the announcement and saying bye!..... wouldn't that rot their socks!!!!!!

But hey, I'm not suggesting that you put yourself in the firing line that way. As I said, it is YOUR decision, and you have to decide yourself how to manage the transition to freedom. My warmest wishes are with you as you take that step.

Hey recently a few ex-RFers got together for lunch and a yarn. It was great to get together and share, and we will do so again in the future. If you think you might like to join us, PM me and we'll keep in touch.

All strength to ya!

Dog.

Hi all,

Just came across this site recently while doing arandom search for RVI. My family and I were with RVI, RF and previously Jubilee Salvation Centre (can't believe I remember that one considering how old it/I was!). We were based out of the Bunbury fellowship. Although being young at the time of entering and still relatively so when leaving it definately left an indelible impression on me. The harm/hurt caused to my family was significant, but at the same time I don't fully regret being part of the fellowship. The result of us being a part of the church and subsequently leaving has made our family extremely close. Although it still bites me about the normal kid stuff I missed out on because of the regimental commitment needed for attendance to EVERY church related event. I look back on some of the rules and regulations and laugh (I remember my brother was threatened to be put out of fellowship if he didn't get his hair cut because it was too long!!!)
Referring back to previous posts Re: E. C***id and Cara : Neither are with the church. My dad still keeps in occasional contact with E. Cara as far as i'm aware is still in Bunbury with her partner and her and E.'s kids

 Hi there rvi_long_gone,

Were you and family with the very charismatic Alan C's breakaway group of Bunbury Redemption Centre which later folded with about 50-75% returning to the RCI fold under the leadership of Pastor RT (and dare I say it "Pastor" GT)?   RCI Bunbury then becoming RF after the 1995 split still for a while under the old guard leadership of  PRT.

You know it EV!

And believe me I know of Alan C's "charasmatic" traits better than most. One very evil man.

Our eventual leaving of RCI was due (partially) to the leadership, or lack of it, of RT.

Yes rvi_l_g,  so true.  A very twisted "charisma" where AC was concerned.

RT was very limited in his knowledge and understanding of scripture.  I was told that once when he was rounding his Bunbury folk up for a 100% showing at camp,  his words from the front were that "if you don't get to camp you should seriously consider your salvation".   Ha!

RT was as dangerous in his own way as AC.  I have at times sat in a Bunbury meeting in sheer disbelief.  If someone fell short his expectation or failed to toe the party line his talks were often loaded with innuendo.  Not just the talks either but also the interpretation of the gifts were full of innuendo.  Used to make me doubt that much was coming from God in all of it.

He and GT are still around Bunbury still strongly asserting their influence.
