Hi all,

Just thinking of late re the term revivalist use, "we are a fellowship 2nd to none", after a number of years out and fellowshipping in other churches, are they right??? i dont mean in doctrine at all, but in the term fellowship.

When I think back of the times of gathering together and mostly a lot of good times during the course of that (excluding most meetings) they have a comradery that is very hard to find elsewhere, (not impossable to find) ut in my experience there has been nothing that i have come across like it.

Would love to hear others thoughts and stories re this.

Except that we really need to explore the context of what they are referring to.

When the reports of their fruit come out into the open??,  well I suppose "none" can mean "nothing at all " so being second to "nothing at all" doesn't make for a safe place to be in...

Seems " second to none " is an oxymoron to me

 Hello Earthy,

I am sure that bikie gangs, Islamists, Freemasons and all of such would say the same about themselves.

Nothing more than sheer propaganda, for the unfortunate flock to consume.

With so many of the faithful leaving the place at present - it could hardly be a "fellowship second to none".

Same goes with the other famous propaganda statement from the same pulpit:

"The Doctrine of this church is second to none"

... in the big lie there is always a certain force of credibility; because the broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily; and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods. It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously. Even though the facts which prove this to be so may be brought clearly to their minds, they will still doubt and waver and will continue to think that there may be some other explanation. For the grossly impudent lie always leaves traces behind it, even after it has been nailed down, a fact which is known to all expert liars in this world and to all who conspire together in the art of lying.

—Adolf Hitler , Mein Kampf, vol. I, ch. X[1]

E5,

Given that you 'hang' almost exclusively with the 'loopy Pente' crowd, are you surprised by the shallowness of 'fellowship' that you've encountered? To quote REM: "...shiny, happy people holding hands..." Geez.

In any case, the term 'fellowship' is used to translate a Greek word that properly means 'participation'. Perhaps you should ponder the significance of this, given that your particular 'brand' of church is likely clueless to what's intended and inferred.

Blessings,

Ian

hey thanks for the thoughts so far, ian once again you make assumptions, but appreciatte the greek translation for the word fellowship.

I was refering to a bunch of ppl in particular any church group getting together and enjoying each others company, i was being a bit tougne in cheek re there use of the wording fellowship 2nd to none.

Ian I harldy can see the relevence of weather it is pento or not to the actual question .

Hi E5, I've heard quite a few ex-revivalists make similar comments to yours.

In revival, we formed friendships because we 'did life together' so often. We were always at meetings, social gatherings, coffee mornings, house meetings etc etc. When you consider how often we got together (much more frequently than say, a tennis club or bushwalkers group etc) it is not surprising that we'd have formed close friendship groups. I've found that I still have a large group of both Christian and non-Christian friends and enjoy their company, but probably the closest to me are those that I 'fellowship' with within the body of Christ. And I don't mean just those in my church, but anyone I can sit down with and share the wonderful things that God is doing in each of our lives.

And yes, great 'fellowship' can be found even the ' loopy pente' churches!

Hey Urch , thanks for your response, and like you i have heard many a ex rever make the same comments,

I guess my question is how much do we do life together in our other perspective fellowships, there is few if any that i have come across that have it like revers did ( it was an enforced one i know) however????? .

Urch you have also had the "luxury" of going to a fellowship where there are at least 100 plus ex revers, so in a sense that "fellowship" continues for you and yours.

My comments are outside of that, what have we found???????

My current church is pretty good at it really, but that is also partly to who we are as people, we make friends and invite them around make connections fellowship etc, but for those that arnt as outgoing, what of them how do they cope? how do they find it???????
